Preparing bikes

Our bikes are pretty normal mountain bikes and we have used them for shopping trips and reasonably short trips, around 10 miles. But doing biking for several days with all the camping gear requires some preparations for the bikes.
The physical preparation is a separate topic and we will cover that later.

The bikes are in a decent condition and they both have pannier racks. My bike has sturdier rack so most likely I will end up having a bit more weight on it. Dóra's bike has a seat post mounted rack with 10kg load limit. We have already pannier bags for her bike but we have to find bags for mine.

Keeping well hydrated during long exercise like this is important. Therefore I visited The Bike Station and came back home with couple second hand bottle cages. We have also one backbag with CamelBag system and we might take that one with us as well.

Other preparations will include replacing fat mud tires of the other bike with some better rolling road tires. We have already a good set of lights so those should not be a problem. I have also ordered a simple bicycle computer from eBay for distance and speed measuring.

Apart from those things I guess our bikes are fine for the task. We are planning to do some practise trips with bags to see how bikes feel with them. It will be also practice for us to get used to a bit different kind of biking.
