Shopping spree

For the preparations we have a shared Google Documents file with list of items we want to have with us. It is much longer than the one on this page! I have ordered several items online and bought some from the local store for the bicycling trip. I think most of them are necessary but I hope I wont have to use some of them.

I have never owned a pair of cycling shorts but the idea of sitting on a saddle for two weeks made me think about buying such. I ended up buying a cheap pair from local Mountain Warehouse store. So far I have only washed them but I haven't tested them yet on a bike ride. Having that padding feels somewhat awkward but I guess it is better than having bunch of blisters.

When checking our tool collection I realised that we lack a chain tool. I think that is the second most important tool right after puncture kit (which I need to find as well). Chain break stops the bike but with this cheap tool it is possible to mend the chain back together. Trying to do the same with pliers or such is quite hopeless.

Navigation on the Hebrides should be simple but in order to monitor our daily progress I decided to get an odometer. This cheap meter from eBay measures speed and distance. It might not be 100% accurate but it should tell whether we covered 10km or 20km in an hour.

The shopping list is not yet completed, there are items like better rolling tires for Dora's bike, puncture kit and such. I will update the list on this page when the list of items is about to get finalised.
